About Prodigy Motorsports

Prodigy Motorsports is a family-driven racing organization dedicated to developing drivers of all ages and experience levels. Founded by father and son duo Chris and Alex Murray and located outside Charlotte in Monroe, NC, the team brings decades of racing expertise—from NASCAR engine building to championship karting—to help racers succeed on and off the track.

Chris Murray spent 20 years building engines for top NASCAR teams, contributing to victories in the 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2010 Daytona 500s. Alex Murray, an accomplished driver, has competed in Quarter Midgets, Legends cars, Limited Late Models, USAC Midgets, and go-karts, earning numerous wins and championships. His passion for racing extends to coaching youth drivers, sharing his knowledge and experience to nurture the next generation of racers.

Together, in 2020 the Murrays launched Prodigy Motorsports to offer a supportive, family-friendly environment where aspiring drivers can thrive at tracks including Trackhouse Motorplex in Mooresville, NC and Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC. Prodigy’s services include driver coaching, arrive-and-drive programs, and full-service racing experiences with all available resources under the team tent. As an importer and distributor for Bestkart racing karts and top-shelf AMV Components, Prodigy Motorsports provides top-tier equipment, sales and support to help drivers reach the top step of the podium while enjoying their time in pursuit of their goals.

Alex Murray

Alex Murray first raced a dirt bike at age 3. He then went on to race Quarter Midgets from ages 5 to 12, Legends cars, Limited Late Model, USAC Midgets, and now Karts at age 20. He’s accumulated diverse driving experiences and has amassed many laps, primarily on asphalt, as well as many fast-times, wins, and championships. Through his racing, Alex has found a natural love of coaching youth drivers. He has also gravitated toward employment related to the automotive and motorsports industries serving as crew member for USAC .25 events, technical product specialist and car detailer at local dealerships, service technician at the family-owned service shop, track operator for K1 Speed, and parts specialist at an auto parts store.

Chris

Chris grew up working with his Dad’s amateur road racing team and raced some go-kart and SCCA races before moving to North Carolina in pursuit of his dream to work in the NASCAR industry. Chris had a successful, 20-year career working for various NASCAR Cup teams building race-winning engines, most notably the 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2010 Daytona 500’s for Dale Earnhardt Inc. Upon retiring from NASCAR, Chris became the owner of Shamrock AutoCare, a local, full-service automotive service shop. Chris was instrumental in sparking his children’s interest in racing, first at age five in quarter midget racing for which he also built engines. Then he helped develop his son’s racing career through Legends, Late Model, USAC Midget, and now Karts.
